Composing a Sound Design Trailer Cue

As part of testing our Origins sample pack, we ended up writing what became the music for the trailer. The goal was to create a modern sound design trailer cue using only sounds from Origins.

As a composer who’s worked in trailers for several years, I’m used to starting a track with a wide range of libraries and tools at my disposal—so this project presented an interesting challenge. I wanted to write something that really showcased the sounds, which meant keeping the track count relatively low and the arrangement intentionally sparse, while still delivering the impact and weight expected in modern trailer music.

Of course, the best way to show you how it all came together is to take you inside the project itself. The video below is a full walkthrough of the cue. It also gives a bit of insight into some of the sound sources used to create Origins, as this cue was written during the testing phase—when the sounds were still named simply by their source.
